To the Farthest Corners of Veluwe Forest
Groot Heideborgh Veluwe Star Route has been designed for cyclists who want to truly live life to the full. During the day, you cycle through beautiful natural scenery and in the evenings you stay at Bilderberg Hotel Résidence Groot Heideborgh in the village of Garderen. For no fewer than six days - what a treat! Bilderberg Hotel Résidence Groot Heideborgh is known for its comfort, culinary qualities and hospitality. In addition to luxurious, pleasant bedrooms, the hotel has a restaurant with a wonderful patio for delightful and exclusive dining. You’ll definitely feel like a VIP when you visit the wellness centre. Enjoy the heated swimming pool, the Turkish steam bath, sauna, fitness equipment and a tanning bed. Your cycling holiday has never been so comfortable! Your hotel is situated in the middle of Veluwe Forest and is therefore the ideal place to begin your daily cycle tours. Using the hotel as a home base, we offer you four round tours setting off in all directions, like a four-point star, taking you to the farthest corners of The Veluwe.

Day 1: Arrival at Garderen
Parking is free at Bilderberg Hotel Résidence Groot Heideborgh.
We will make the reservation for you. Your hotel is situated in a unique part of the Netherlands: the centre of The Veluwe. Today, you have plenty of time to take in the beautiful surroundings. The welcoming village of Garderen is certainly worth a visit.
Dag 2: Star-Route Northern Veluwe
Vast forests, purple heaths, picturesque friendly places – you get to see it all on the North Veluwe Star Route. Crossroads are numbered in The Veluwe. We will give you a series of numbers and all you have to do is follow the signposts. This route (40 km) will guide you to areas of outstanding natural beauty, such as Ermelo’s Heath, Hulshorster Heath and Leuvenum Forest. You will pass through the picturesque villages of Drie, Ermelo, Hierden, Leuvenum and Speuld. You will also stop off at the old fishing town of Harderwijk. Once you get back to Groot Heideborgh Hotel, a delightful dinner awaits you. To top off your day, put your feet up in the sauna or loosen up in the pool.
Day 3: Star Route Eastern Veluwe
Today, you get as much as 42 km of pure natural beauty. You will get to see the heathland at Houtdorperveld, the woods around Staverden country estate, the forest at Hoog Soerense Bossen and more heaths at Asselse Heide. What’s more, villages like Elspeet, Hoog Soeren, Kootwijkerveen and leafy Nieuw Millegen are a pleasure to behold. After 42 km cycling it is time to rest in cosy Groot Heideborgh Hotel.
Day 4: Star Route Southern Veluwe
On Star Route Southern Veluwe, discover how beautiful unspoiled nature can be. You will explore areas of heathland: Houtdorperveld, Garderense Veld, de Hoog Buurlose Heide and Wekeromse Zand. The route will take you through a number of pretty villages as well as to surprising Radio Kootwijk known as the Cathedral of Veluwe Forest. After a wonderful cycling tour of some 37 kilometres you’ll find yourself back at Groot Heideborgh Hotel.
Day 5: Star Route Western Veluwe
The last 38 miles of your cycling holiday take you past the prettiest spots in Western Veluwe. You will cycle through beautiful natural areas on Boeschoten Country Estate and around Voorthuizen and Appelse Heide.
The route will also guide you to recreational area Strand Nulde, great for swimming or lazing on the beach. Your trip continues to Putten and to one of the Netherlands’ oldest forests: Sprielder Bos, known as "the forest of dancing trees” because the trees appear to dance in the mist! Also don’t miss haunted Solse Gat valley, where - legend has it - a convent sank into the mud after nuns allied with the witches in the Middle Ages. Then cycle back to Garderen where, for the last time, you will sit down to a scrumptious dinner.
Day 6: The Return Journey
You have cycled the Groot Heideborgh Veluwe Star Route. Today your bike holiday drawas to a close, but not until you have indulged in a big hearty breakfast for the last time. After breakfast, it is time to go home.
